Free Pickup and Delivery: How It Works Here

Sophie’s Cleaners offers free dry cleaning pickup and delivery across Westchester and Upper Manhattan, with a $25 minimum per order. There’s no delivery fee and no membership. You book a collection, leave your bags out, and they come back clean — dry cleaning, wash & fold, tailoring, or all three in the same bag.

That’s the whole answer. The rest of this is the detail people actually ask us about.

What the $25 minimum means

It’s a minimum order value, not a fee. If your order comes to $25 or more, pickup and delivery cost you nothing. Wash & fold is priced per pound, and a typical household load clears the minimum without much thought.

If you’re under it, you have two options: wait and combine it with next week’s, or drop it at whichever of our three shops you pass anyway.

Where we collect

We run collections around all three stores:

If you’re in Washington Heights, this is worth more than it sounds. The neighbourhood is built on a ridge — Bennett Park is the highest natural point in Manhattan — and some blocks are joined by step streets rather than pavements. There are 130 stairs between Fort Washington Avenue and Overlook Terrace at 187th Street. Carrying a fortnight of laundry up those is a specific kind of misery, and it’s the main reason our 181st Street customers switch to collections.

What you can send

Anything we handle in the shop travels in the same bag:

For laundry you can specify the soap. We keep premium eco-friendly and hypoallergenic detergents as standard, but if your household uses something particular, say so and we’ll use it. Hang dry is available for anything that shouldn’t go near a dryer.

Booking a collection

Pick the store nearest you and book from its page — Scarsdale, Ardsley or Washington Heights. Each shop runs its own counter and its own collection round, so booking through the right one keeps your order with the team who’ll actually be handling it.

Two practical notes. If you need to cancel or move a collection, give us at least an hour. And if you’re not going to be in, leave the bag somewhere sheltered and tell us where — we’d rather know than guess.

If you’d rather just drop in

Plenty of people do, and it’s often simpler. The Scarsdale shop sits on Garth Road, a short walk from the Metro-North station, which makes it an easy stop on the way to or from the platform. The Ardsley shop is on Saw Mill River Road, so it’s a straight pull-in if you’re already driving that corridor. And 181st Street is a walkable stretch with subway stops on both the 1 and the A.

Either way it’s the same shop, the same people and the same work. Collection just saves you the trip.

Questions about whether we reach your street? Ask us — if you’re near any of the three shops, the answer is usually yes.
